The Batman, Zack Snyder’s birthday, DC “Evicted,” etc.
Or “I’m A Real Pain-In-The-Ass That Way”
As you can see, I’ve stepped up the pace of these newsletters. Pretty soon you’re gonna be begging me to stop clogging up your inbox with these many notifications. It’s all part of my highly thought-out marketing plan.
To be honest, I barely knew the new Matt Reeves Batman movie had come out already. This movie seems great, and I respect Robert Pattinson as an actor (if for no other reason than that fakakta accent in “The Lighthouse”)—but I feel no big impetus at the moment to check this flick out.
But I’m just like that, it took me over 20 years to see the original Jurassic Park & when I finally did I loved it. I’m a real pain-in-the-ass that way.
Speaking of Batman & the DCEU, it’s Zack Snyder’s birthday today. I often confuse Snyder with TV’s Seth Myers; am I a bad person?
Snyder has seemed to inspire quite the cult following. Apropos perhaps of something, I really enjoyed his take on Watchmen. I remember that when I used to praise Zack’s “Watchmen” online, I’d get publicly dressed down by Alan Moore fans. Now, if I criticize his DCEU movies in any way, I’d probably have dogshit sent to my P.O. Box in protest. Lesson: you can’t fucking win. Not even Zack Snyder can win. The only people winning at present are apparently Jeff Bezos & Pete Davidson, so get fucking used to it.
Also on this day in 1990, Steve Jackson Games, makers of the infamous “Illuminati” card game, was raided by the Secret Service. They apparently had another game at the time, GURPs Cyberpunk, which was accused of being, in the words of the government, “a handbook for computer crime.” The writer of said game also had his home raided, and hard drives & scripts were confiscated all around.
Of course, we all know the REAL reason Steve Jackson got raided by the Secret Service, right? All together now:
Did you like that meme? I made it myself like 15 years ago. I’m a real pain in the ass that way.
By the way, what action figure would you rather buy, Harry Dean Stanton…
…or Wally Shawn?
Me, I’m still waiting for Whitman Mayo.
Finally, rumor has it that the Burbank offices of venerable comic book publisher DC Comics are being closed down, with the workers switching to remote work until such time as new offices are available. I remember many moons ago (even before I finally saw “Jurassic Park”) when I worked at the huge NYC DC Comics location.
Things certainly change, don’t they? It all seems so ephemeral. Pattinson’s now Batman, DC editorial’s working from home, dogs & cats lying together. The years go by so quickly now.
Thanks for reading, and have a great day! I wrote this all at 5:30 AM, in bed, as soon as I woke up; to keep the genius fresh. Well, time to pee.
